Product Design Engineer

Job Description

The Product Engineer will be responsible for performing routine engineering work and for occasionally handling minor engineering projects; also assist in various phases of major projects.  This position will have contact with other engineering department personnel regarding ideas, drawings, and product, as well as external contact with customers and vendors in the development of designs, to resolve problems, and to provide prototypes.  Uses independent judgment and exercises discretion in executing their duties.  This position requires a high degree of confidentiality.

Wage: $60,000 - $70,000 annual

Essential Functions

1. Will originate and/or develop designs for products relating to defined customer needs or as possible proprietary items.  This also may include the adaptation of existing components or designs into new customer applications.
2. Assists in the analysis of engineering design for specific applications.
3. Assists in the investigation and analysis of new materials, equipment, and engineering practices.
4. Prepares or assists in preparing engineering computations.
5. Establishes test requirements if not specified by customer, and develops and directs the testing of new product prototypes to verify reliability.
6. Maintains contact with related customers regarding new designs, requirements, or applications.
7. Assists in the production and control of engineering documentation.
8. Prepares engineering drawings, sketches, layouts.
9. Preform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
2. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
3. Strong project management skills.
4. Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills are essential.
5. Knowledgeable in using inventor.
